Records of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine, 1889-current

The Records of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine currently contains 43 linear feet of records, from the organization’s founding in 1889 through 2003. Originally called the Association of Life Insurance Medical Directors of America (ALIMDA), the organization’s mission is to “advance the science and practice of Insurance Medicine”. Of particular interest to those researching the origin and development of the field of insurance medicine, the AAIM archive includes histories of the organization, correspondence, membership records, meeting records, photographs, and other administrative records. As the American Academy of Insurance Medicine remains an active organization, this archive is updated periodically. Richard Bunker Singer Papers, 1939-2010

The Richard Bunker Singer Papers, donated in 2010, documents the extensive career of Richard Bunker Singer, M.D. (1914-2010) in the field of insurance medicine and his work on mortality and morbidity studies. He was an active member of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM) for over 50 years, and published many works. Included are his autobiography entitled, “Fugitive Memories of the Life of a Number Cruncher”, correspondence, research notes, presentations, and manuscript notes for many monographs and journal articles.
